Dear Old Boys and Friends of Durban High School,
At a recent presentation held on 22 September 2009, the Strategic Plan of where the School is heading and what is required to achieve the goals set out in this plan, was presented to OldBoys, Parents and Friends of DHS.
ExecutiveSummary.
In order to ensure that the School remains a school with a reputation for superb all round Education, we require additional funding for capital projects that will provide our boys with the kind of environment they need to exceed our expectations. We are aiming to create an environment both in and outside the classroom which is conducive to improving the whole learning experience for them. The areas identified to ensure the plan is achieved are:
Upgrading of Blackmore House (CurrentlyUnderway)
New High Performance Centre for all sport types (Complete December 2009)
Indoor Cricket Centre (Complete December2009)
Upgrading of all classrooms.
Just as DHS made a difference in your life, you now have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of future generations of DHS boys. All of the above mentioned facilities are geared towards improving our academic environment and our traditional sports. But they also come at a cost, a cost that we as a School need assistance for from the Old Boy & Friends. We are appealing to you as an Old Boy or Friend to assist us in generating sufficient funds to enable the School to achieve the targeted facilities above. If we can all make a contribution and achieve these goals prospective parents will say, "There is no reason why I should not send my son to this wonderful School!"
In terms of financial assistance there are a few avenues Old Boys may wish to consider.
Old Boys (or a year) can sponsor a dormitory in Blackmore - the first refurbished dorm is now complete for Blackmore Old Boys to view
Old Boys (or a class) can sponsor the upgrade of a particular classroom - the refurbishment of the first classroom will be complete at the end of December for viewing
All past cricketers of the School can have their names included under their final year of playing the sport, alongside all our past national players in the newly built indoor cricket centre
Old Boys who received scholarships and bursaries have an opportunity to have a
scholarship or bursary named after them for the boys we have started to attract to the School from out side Durban and the province
It is time for Old Boys and Friends to really assist the School through positive actions which the Governing Body and School management are taking to ensure this wonderful educational facility gets back to the place it should be.
We will be hosting a number of functions at the School over the remainder of the year for Old Boys and Friends wanting to be of assistance but urge every past pupil to assist us in achieving our
short term and long term goals. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
Mr Dave Dunn, the Commercial Manager of the School, can be contacted on 0823010303
to set up a one on one meeting with ourselves or to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to your assistance in our strategic plan.
Yours truly,
