DHS Media Centre

mediacentre1

The present Media Centre/Library at Durban High School, one of the best School facilities in KwaZulu–Natal, was the brainchild of past Head Master Mr Bennison and members of the Governing Body. The plans were drawn by DHS “Old Boys” who designed a 3 level Media Centre within the shell of the old school hall. The beautiful old walls house very modern Media facilities without loosing the atmosphere and history of the past.

Four Project Rooms in the Reference area gives secluded areas for group work and the nine computers provide 24 hour access to the Internet, Electronic Reference Material and word processing facilities. Documents can be photocopied and printing can also be done from computers. Laminating and binding facilities are also available. The foyer of the M/C displays some of the relics of the “Old School” and portraits of past Head Masters adorn the walls of the Walkway. On the lower floor is a computer Room, the School Archives and a School Clothing Shop.

Seabrooke’sTheatre

2007 saw the opening of the purpose built and fully equipped “Christopher Seabrooke Theatre” which is air-conditioned and able to seat 103 people. It is available for both school and external productions.

The theatre builds on our record for producing high quality shows, some which have made appearances at the National Arts Festival.

Chris Seabrooke Music Centre

Music Centre

In 2016, the 150th year of Durban High School, Chris Seabrooke once again demonstrated his unwavering support, both for the boys of DHS and the ethos of the school, by personally funding the brand new state of the art Music Centre, which opened in October 2016.

The new Chris Seabrooke Music Centre boasts nine practice rooms, a sound proof project-recording studio and an auditorium. The auditorium seats 90 people, houses a baby grand piano and is fully equipped with instrument backline and sound system. This facility is a platform for young musicians to grow their talent, with endless possibilities.  The Chris Seabrooke Music Centre has positioned DHS to become an epicentre for a thriving music programme that will be specific to the culture of the school as well as the province of KZN.

In addition, the Chris Seabrooke Music Centre is a marking centre for Trinity College London music exams, which allows music students to register at DHS to do their Trinity Grade in both practical and theory.

High Performance Cricket Centre

Durban High School boasts one of the best indoor cricket coaching facilities around. Recently commissioned, this centre has already attracted some serious attention from those knowledgable of the game.
