The Victor Daitz Mathematics & Science Centre is a magnificent, state-of-the art, newly refurbished Maths and Science Centre which boasts an auditorium, science laboratories and refurbished and refurnished classrooms, all fitted with data projectors and IT connectivity.
The classrooms and facilities are on par with the very best available in any school in South Africa.
The Laboratories are superb and the lecture theatre is a welcome addition. The new chemical store rooms are fully compliant with the most up-to-date layout and recommendations pertaining to responsible management of equipment and safe storage of chemicals.
Refurbished in 2016 and opened in February 2017, the upgrade cost R6.6m and was sponsored by very generous donations of R5.1m from The Victor Daitz Foundation and R1.5m from the DHS Foundation Trust.
The Victor Daitz Foundation, a humanitarian organisation which supports a wide spectrum of causes and uplifts the lives of many South Africans, was named after Victor Daitz, a Jewish entrepreneur who spent most of his business life in Durban. With education as one of the beneficiaries of the Victor Daitz Foundation and Daitz’s consideration of Mathematics and Science as the cornerstones of education, DHS was granted the funding support for the exciting transformation of the former Science Block.
The DHS Foundation is committed to the development and upliftment of Durban High School through partnership with the school community of Old Boys, parents, staff and learners. Their aim is to ensure the continued growth of DHS as a centre of excellence, learning and opportunity. This splendid facility is enjoyed by staff and boys equally.
