The President’s Award for youth empowerment is one of South Africa’s leading youth achievement programmes. It is earmarked for young people aged 14-24 and is introduced to grade 9 to 12 learners. The programme gives young people a chance to develop their organisational skills and manage their time effectively.
The President’s Award is proudly synonymous with The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Over time the programme builds young people’s confidence, dedication and commitment; attributes required in school life and in the workplace. Upon completion, young people receive a certificate that bears the signature of the His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Award comprises 3 levels and 4 sections. Participants complete all four sections at each level to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold Award. At Gold level, participants also complete a Residential Project. The 4 sections are: service, skills, physical recreation and adventurous journey. These are all activities offered at Durban High School. It is each Learner’s responsibility is to journal and formalise his activities.
