The Durban High School is delighted to announce that four of our learners have been selected to represent the KZN U17 Sevens Rugby Team at the provincial tournament in Paarl this October.
Phendulani Buthelezi, Sanele Nohamba, Onke Jiba and Gert Coetzee all made the 12 man squad with another learner. Cham Zondeki, was chosen as a non-travelling reserve. This achievement has meant that DHS has the most representatives in the team t…hroughout the province.
“The boys have worked extremely hard to put themselves in this position. They have had the benefit from participating in a fully fledged 3rd Term Sevens programme that we launched this year at the school. Sevens Rugby is definitely growing in schoolboy rugby and we are excited to see the developments the boys have made in this field.”
Their inclusion in the team has seen them carry their form from the domestic season, where the DHS U18 Sevens Rugby Team had a very successful year, winning two festivals including the flagship tournament at Pionier Hoerskool. This bodes well for the future of Sevens Rugby both in KZN and at DHS as four of the boys selected are only U16 and will therefore have another opportunity next year to represent the highest level of Sevens Rugby at High School.
We wish them good luck at the tournament!
