Launch of 150th Celebrations!

Thursday1st October saw the launch of the 150th Celebrations of the Durban High School.

A formal function was held at the School with DHS Staff, DHS Foundation Trustees, DHS Old Boys, Governing Body  members, special guests and representatives from surrounding schools in attendance.
The guests were treated to drinks and snacks in the Seabrooke’s foyer before the entire gathering moved upstairs to the AJ Human and Founders Room for the formalities. Head Boy for 2016, Mvumeleni Mathenjwa, opened the ceremony with a moving welcome and the guests were then entertained by the DHS Mambazo Singers.
Mr Erasmus presented the official welcome and his 150th anniversary message, followed by more entertainment, this time by the DHS Deo Fretus Singers.
Mr Fennell, CEO of the DHS Foundation spoke and Liam Whitfield, Head Boy of 2015, introduced Guest of Honour, Mr Chris Seabrooke, Chairman of The DHS Foundation. Mr Seabrooke officially opened the 150th Celebrations and wished the School and its community all the best for 2016.
Deputy Head Boy of 2016, Joshua Spooner, closed the ceremony, thanking everyone for attending.
The 150th Visitors Book was available for all to sign and guests also had an opportunity to walk through the newly completed museum in the old reception area. (Read more about the Museum on page 2.)
Durban High School and its entire community looks forward to all the special events and festivals planned for 2016 and celebrating the schools’ 150th anniversary.
In 2016, DHS will host a number of special events and festivals which are planned to celebrate the 150th anniversary. Included in the celebrations will be new developments including a new Mathematics and Science as well as a new music centre.
“Durban High School is built on the foundations of loyalty, trust, pride, honour and courage. In future years, we promise to continue to uphold the schools heritage and strive for a centre of excellence that produces great leaders for the future of South Africa,” stated Head Master, Mr Leon Erasmus.
