Unique U16 Water Polo Tournament at DHS …
Teams from all over the country will descend on the city when Durban High School host the third annual Nashua DHS U16 Water Polo Tournament from 8 to 11 October – the only tournament for this age group in the country.
The 17 teams who have accepted invitations come from Western and Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng as well as the KZN Midlands and Durban. The squads include most of the top water polo schools with all the top four from last year’s tournament returning.
St John’s will be looking for a repeat win while the hosts will be hoping to go one better than their runner-up spot from last year and repeat their 2013 victory.
Other schools taking part are 2014 semi-finalists Clifton and Selborne, as well as Parktown, St Alban’s College, Hilton, Bishops, Affies, Westville, St David’s, Jeppe High, Michaelhouse, KES, St Andrew’s College, Glenwood, St Stithians and King Edward VII (KES).
With the success of this event for the past two years, Durban High School’s Master in Charge of Water Polo, Jean Le Roux, is determined that this year will be even better.
“We are anticipating another successful tournament this year and are ecstatic to have more schools joining us this year, taking this tournament to the next level. On behalf of DHS I would like to wish all the teams well and look forward to seeing positive comradery and good sportsmanship,” Le Roux commented.
The programme of events will see teams being divided into four groups with the tournament winner eventually coming from cross pool playoffs and then quarter and semi-finals.
A Man of the Match will be selected for each game, while a tournament committee will select a Goalkeeper, Defender and Attacker of the Tournament as well as a Tournament Team.
