Grade 8 Bell Ringing Ceremony

DHS Grade 8s Ring the Bell!
The Durban High School Grade 8 Bell Ringing Ceremony and Induction for 2016 was held on the first day of school on Wednesday 13 January as the excited Grade 8s were formally welcomed into the DHS brotherhood for the next five years.
The theme for the year is the 150th slogan: “Honour the Tradition; Explore the Future”. Head Master, Mr Leon Erasmus, shared words of enlightenment and encouragement with the new young DHS gentlemen, some of whom looked a bit overwhelmed by their new surroundings.
As representatives of Durban’s oldest school, each and every boy was encouraged to uphold the School’s name and cherish the heritage of the School. Each boy then made a Pledge of Allegiance to the brotherhood and promised to make the most of his time at DHS – especially this year as we celebrate the 150th year of the School.
The ringing of the bell serves as a symbolism that each and every boy is now ready to become part of the DHS tradition and heritage of the School. After the bell was rung, each boy in the grade was assisted into his brand new blazer by the Head Prefect, Mvumeleni Mathenjwa, and a number of other prefects who lent a hand. They then shook hands with Mr Erasmus as they officially entered the Durban High School!
Welcome to the future Class of 2020!
