Latest from the Head Master’s Desk : 20 May 2016

There is a lot of excitement in the school as we build up to the Founders Weekend from 3-4 June.  This is our most important weekend of the year and we expect a large number of Old Boys to descend on Durban and our beloved school over that weekend.  There are groups getting together and we also have the Old Boys Dinner on the Friday, the Music evenings and then the Rugby and Hockey on the Saturday.   On Friday 3 June, we will be having a Founders Day Assembly at 08h15 in the Memorial Quad to which I want to invite our Old Boys.  This is an important occasion and it will also give the Old Boys an opportunity to see the tremendous spirit that exists in the school at the moment.
One of our Old Boys will erect a stand for us at no cost to the school on which the Old Boys can sit as a group.  This will be in place a week before the match against College on Founders Saturday.
We play Glenwood in a classic clash on Saturday 28 May and this is also a televised game.  It is scheduled to be played at lunch time to accommodate the TV schedule on that day.
Thirteen of our Rugby boys and three Hockey boys have been selected for KZN teams and I want to congratulate them firstly and also wish them well for their respective competitions in the holidays.   I wonder when last DHS had 5 boys in the Craven Week A side?  The boys have played well this year and they deserve this acknowledgement.
Last weekend we posted large scores against George Campbell, which prompted us to rather play our 2nd team against Kloof High School 1st team.  The second team is playing very well at the moment and I have no doubt they will continue to do well.  On Wednesday this week our 1st XI Hockey had a good 2-0 win against Hillcrest.
I also congratulated a large number of our boys in assembly this week who completed a seven week Toastmasters course on Leadership as well as a number of boys who did very well in a National Computer Olympiad.
