The DHS 150th Football Festival was a great success!
A number of the top football playing schools from around the country participated in the Durban High School 150th Football Festival. These included Durban High School, Westville Boys’ High, Sharks Academy, Clifton College, Northwood, Parktown Boys’ High, Benoni High School, St Charles College, Glenwood, Dale College, St Henry’s Marist College, Maritzburg College and Victoria Park High School.
The Festival began on Saturday 25 June, with some of the teams arriving on Friday 24 June. Some beautiful Football was played over the next 4 days, with Tuesday, 28 June, 2016 seeing the conclusion and awards ceremony.
Clive Barker was the guest of honour and handed over the prizes after all teams were addressed by the Master-in-Charge: Football, Stef Crasso and Alan Norton, DHS Deputy Head Master and DHS 1st Football Team Coach.
Although this was a Festival and not a Tournament, some awards were presented. These were as follows:
Best Goalkeeper: Yannick de Mezieres of Westville Boys’ High
Golden Boot: Lyle Foster of Parktown Boys’ High
Best Mid-fielder/ Striker: Tegan Bachoo of Maritzburg College
Best Defender: Ruach Chenygen of Benoni High
Best Performing Team: Parktown Boys’ High – Coach Xolani Moshuge
Best Team Spirit: Victoria Park High School – Coach R Leander
Most Disciplined Team: Dale College – Coach Carlos Mtshamba
DHS looks forward to making this festival an annual event and are very pleased that this inaugural event was a success.
