Latest from the Head Master’s Desk : 19 August

I will attend the Headmasters’ Conference for Traditional State Boys’ Schools next week.  The conference is held annually and this year it is hosted jointly by Westville Boys’ High School and Pinetown Boys’ High School.  The presentations by guest speakers and the information shared amongst our schools are of great value.  This group consists of 24 schools and even though we are scattered throughout the country, we face similar challenges.  In the next few articles, I will share with you what was discussed.
The Trial Examinations for the Matrics are almost upon us and it is of utmost importance that the boys attend class right to the end and here I want to appeal to the parents to play their part.  We are also not too far away from the NSC Examinations at the end of the year.
The Rugby Sevens’ Teams are doing extremely well and the U18A team must be congratulated on winning the College Sevens Tournament.  In the process they beat a number of our traditional rivals namely Kearsney, Hilton, Michaelhouse and College.  All of them were by large margins except for Michaelhouse who we beat by two points in the semi finals.  Well done Scott Mathie, Howard Noble and the DHS boys for making us proud.
To end off I want to quote David Beckham who said:  “Impossible is not a fact.  It is an opinion.  Impossible is not a declaration.  It is a dare.  Impossible is a potential.  Impossible is temporary.  Impossible is nothing.”
