Latest from the Head Master’s Desk : 9 September 2016

We had a very good two weeks inside and outside the classroom. We announced the Junior Prefects this week and they will be in action the next few weeks. The school will then vote for their leaders for 2017.
Our Athletes retained the Northwood Quadrangular Athletics title by beating Glenwood, Northwood and Westville. Our athletes are phenomenal and deserve recognition. We had the best U17 Athlete, the best U19 Athlete and also the overall best Athlete. We have won this title the last 7 years. Well done to Mr Goodwin and the boys!
The 1st XI Football team brought back the Natal Association Football Junior Challenge Cup, presented by George H Raw in 1889 when we beat Maritzburg College 1- 0 last Saturday. It is known as the Raw Cup and College won it last year, but our boys have been playing very well this season under the coaching of Mr Alan Norton and they certainly deserved this result.
The Rugby Sevens Team won the Sharks’ Field of Dreams Tournament last Saturday when the beat Westville 47-15 in the final. They reached the final by beating Clifton, Hilton, Kearsney and Michaelhouse. As a school we are very proud of what this team has achieved under Mr Scott Mathie and Mr Howard Noble. This is the 4th trophy in 5 tournaments. This weekend we are hosting the next tournament and we will also be hosting the Inter-provincials in the holidays.
Also on Saturday we again won the Durban & Districts Chess tournament. This makes us the best Chess team in Durban and beyond and I want to congratulate Mrs Saloshana Nagiah and the Chess players on this fine achievement. Remember that we were also crowned the best Badminton team in SA a few weeks ago.
I am definitely a very proud Head Master.
The Matrics have all started with their Trial Examinations and I want to wish them well. These exams will give the boys a good idea of where they are and what they need to do to either continue doing well, or improve their results at the end of the year. If they prepare properly now, it will be so much easier to prepare for the Finals.
Leon Erasmus
14th Head Master
