A Celebration of the Life of Mr Roy Cowgill

Roy Cowgill

A Special Assembly was held on Thursday 26 January to celebrate the life of Mr Roy Cowgill, who passed away unexpectedly on 6 January 2017.
The Assembly, organised by Mr Norton, was a very moving celebration of a man loved by staff and boys alike. Mr Norton welcomed the boys, staff and visitors who had gathered and read a tribute to Mr Cowgill. Mr Lewis also spoke and Mrs Sibisi moved everyone to tears with a beautifully sung Amazing Grace.

A prayer was said and Asvhir Debba said the following:
“Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trial of beautiful memories.”
Ronal Reagan
When one thinks of Mr Cowgill, an immediate image of a whimsical fun man comes to mind. He was a man of academic excellence and prestige, with many accolades to his name, yet humble enough to convey knowledge to the youth. He believed that knowledge was the greatest weapon to combat the calamites of the world.
His great love for nature was imparted to all students that they may appreciate it also.
He truly was a beautiful soul thus resulting in a trail of beautiful memories.
As I reminisce I see the laughter, the lectures and the craziness he brought to the classroom.
He has truly inspired all those who walked into his doorway, and though he has left us, S114 still resonates his being.
A great man, a captivating teacher and an inspiring mentor.
Deo Fretus, Sir.
