Latest from the Acting Head Master’s Desk : 20 January 2017

The first full week of the academic 2017 year has been really busy but at the same time productive and rewarding. The Grade 11, 10 and 9 Parent Information Evenings were held in week two on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in the Thompson Hall. The evenings were well organized by our respective Grade Heads and HOD’s in charge of each Grade. We were very impressed by the turn out of our parents and our young men. The evenings were positive, with each speaker addressing the core values of our school. It was stressed that we expect all our young men to get involved in school life outside of the classroom. Our young men will be exposed to various outdoor leadership programmes, will have to complete many hours of community service and attend various compulsory events during the year. We firmly believe that all of these activities will challenge our young men in an environment outside of their comfort zones. Our parents are encouraged to support the school by ensuring that their sons participate fully in all the opportunities offered at School.

On the co–curricular front, we held the Inter-House Gala on Tuesday. There was keen competition amongst the Houses; Campbell managed to hold on to win. On Thursday 19 January the 1st, U16A and U15A Cricket teams hosted Krugersdorp High School, a fixture we have hosted for the last 10 years at least. All three sides recorded good victories and we look forward to Saturday when we host the Sunfoil teams.
Theobald Oval is looking magnificent at the moment and Sandford (Topfield) has recovered well after the completion of The Chris Seabrooke Music Centre on the Vause Road side of the Hall.
I would like to thank the Durban High School Team for all their hard work and commitment. We are all privileged to be part of this great School and look forward to a challenging and fulfilling 2017.
