Hockey vs Northwood : 1st XI Match Report

Hockey

The DHS 1st XI Hockey came up against a very good Northwood team that saw them go down 0-8.
The boys started off extremely well, putting Northwood under early pressure and surprising them into making some early mistakes in the midfield; however, some poor execution of our own basic skills prevented us from capitalising on these mistakes.
We were caught on a counter attack about 10 minutes in and conceded a penalty corner; once again an individual error on our part allowed them to take the lead and from that moment on we were chasing the game. We had to change tactics to try and stop the wave after wave of attack.
Unfortunately, when you come up against a team who could quite possibly be the number one school boy team in the province any mistakes which you make are costly and it proved to be so in this game. Good play by Northwood and errors caused by the pressure they put on us resulted in our boys conceding three more goals by half time.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with our boys starting the half well and conceding again due to a lack of concentration. Unfortunately, once again we conceded four goals in the second half.
There were moments when we really played above ourselves, and if we could better capitalise when we are on top (and play at that level for longer periods) and improve on our pressure management and concentration when we are not, there is potential to have a very productive season.
