Durban High School started their rugby season in emphatic fashion defeating their visitors Northwood by 82 unanswered points on Van Heerden’s on Saturday. This score line is one of the biggest in the School history and has laid a foundation on which to base the entire season.
Northwood applied pressure early on, but the DHS defence was resolute with dealing with all Northwood had to offer. After weathering the early onslaught, DHS were able to move through phases with fluidity and scored two early tries through centre Asanda Kunene and scrumhalf Sanele Nohamba. The “School” forwards worked hard to get go forward which allowed the backs to flourish. A strong set piece on the day also starved Northwood for ball and made the battle one-sided. With DHS capitalising on turnovers and utilising a devastating counter attack game, the Horseflies were able to rain down tries for the duration of the match.
The Van Heerden’s faithful will be excited about the season to come and will be overjoyed by such a massive statement in their first game.
