The Matric fundraising event: Beauty & the Beatz was a throwback to all things casual. The evening of 24 March 2017 began with an amazing line- up of performers from our ‘Old Boys’ to our current learners. An amazing up-and-coming rap rendition from a young Grade 8 performer had the audience in rapture with his very own composition. We are certainly looking forward to some awesome performances in the years to come from this young man. Mkhize and his group of dancers/ rappers really had the crowd going and clapping to the beats of his very catchy, “Give me the Coke”
Other performers included our own Ed Sheeran in the form of Cohen Naidoo, with his version of “Shape of You”, who was accompanied by the talented band players. TT Shabalala, an ‘Old Boy’ delivered a sterling performance … as always.
The Beatz segment ended all too soon and the fashion section followed quickly afterwards.
Again this year, our matric boys outshone the girls on the ramp. Credit must go to Shaun Stander (owner of Mobile Model Management) who never hesitates to help us out with the choreography. The time and commitment he gives to our school is highly appreciated. Thank you Shaun for all that you do for our school. Our youngsters displayed class and a great deal of professionalism when they modelled the clothing lines and were well represented.
It is always good to watch our normally academically and sport-inclined learners get out of their comfort zones and take to the spotlight of a different kind. This is such an excellent, fun way of raising funds for the Matric Dance.
Our models looked like supermodels as they took to the ramp in the various garments so kindly loaned to us by various Fashion Stores in and around Durban. This year, we welcomed to our school, a regular feature on SA Fashion Week, Vanessa Pillay of Hombre garments. What a pleasant surprise to discover our ‘Old Boy’ Jeandre Peterson taking charge of her designs. It was so refreshing to see a display of such a totally different range of garments.
The showstopper had to be, once again, the DHS staff modelling segment. Thank you to the staff that embraced the theme Beauty and the Beasts and took to the ramp in style. The Beasts were easily complemented by the ladies who all looked stunning.
Thank you to all our sponsors for the evening. All those who attended, were thoroughly entertained.
