On Saturday 6 May 2017 we held our second DHS Rapid Chess Tournament.
A total of 73 participants entered this open individual tournament. The oldest entrant was Mr Bruce Herbert (47) and the youngest was Watson Aaron (7).
Mr Pinheiro, our newly appointed Head Master welcomed all the players and wished them well for the day. This CHESSA rated 7 round Swiss tournament comprising 25/25 minutes commenced at about 9am.
The AJ Human Functions room was dead silent whilst the games were on. The final round ended at 17:05.
The winners were:
First prize was shared by Jason Subke and Sayen Naidu (Class of 2010). They each received R875 cash, and a trophy.
Second prize was shared by Lindokuhle Xulu and Cayden Pather (Grade 11 at DHS). They each received R400 as well as a trophy.
The Best Junior player was our Grade 9 learner: Sachen Pather – he received a cash prize of R150 and a trophy.
A huge thank you to all who helped in ensuring this event was a huge success.
