Our KZN Rugby boys, Coach Scott Mathie and Head Master Mr A D Pinheiro, recently attended KZN High Schools Annual Capping Ceremony hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and The Sharks Schools at the Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium.
Mr Tony Richter (Vice Chairman – KZN High School) and Mr Gerald Pyoos (Chairman – KZN High School) welcomed the guests and players before handing over to Mr Francois Louis (President- KZNRU) and Lubabalo (Tera) Mtembu (Sharks Player) who addressed the guests and emphasised the fact that these rugby weeks are for memories to be made and to give off one’s best on the field.
The team capping ceremony then got underway and saw 23 players, from various schools, being selected in each respective category with, 11 Durban High School learners, being officially initiated into KZN High Schools for the following teams:
U18 Craven Week:
Phendulani Burthelezi, Lwandile Menze, Sanele Nohamba, Cham Zondeki and Celimpilo Gumede
U18 Academy:
Tonderai Ndudzo, Luthando Buthelezi, Sean Barnes and Kamvelihle Fatyela
U16 Grant Khomo:
Darren Booysen and Jaydian Cedares
Scott Mathie (DHS 1st XV Coach and M-i-C of Rugby) was also noted as one of the coaches of the U16 Grant Khomo Week.
According to the KZNRU and KZN High Schools’ Rugby Association, it is an honour to wear the black and white and to represent this province on the rugby playing field, and they wished the players well.
