During the July holidays from 16 to 20 July Tiagan Terreblanche participated in the North Hockey Tournament held at Kearsney College, representing the KZN Coastal U18 Impis.
The tournament kicked off with a group match between KZN and the Zimbabwe National U18 side. KZN pulled off a convincing win, with Tiagan contributing one of the goals to their 4-0 victory. The next day KZN played their last two group matches. Against Mpumalanga B side, they won 7-0, with 2 goals from Tiagan. Against Southern Fee State, KZN won 8-1, with Tiagan scoring 3 goals. Finishing top of the group, KZN prepared for the semi-finals.
On 19 July, KZN played their semi-final match vs Boland. A scrappy start saw KZN down for the first time in the tournament. However, the boys rose above the pressure and ended the game as 5-1 victors.
The finals were held on 20 July against the familiar Zimbabwe side again. Scoring early, KZN seemed rather confident but a late defensive error allowed for Zimbabwe to get one goal back. With a draw finish, the champions had to be decided by a penalty shootout. Tiagan, scoring his penalty, brought a roar to the home crowd and fellow teammates but, unfortunately, Zimbabwe managed to win the gold.
We extremely proud of Tiagan for winning the top gold scorer award with 7 goals in 5 games!
Congratulations, Tiagan!
