During the holidays, some of our Rugby boys participated in the Craven Week, Academy Week and Grant Khomo Week tournaments.
Craven Week and Academy Week
Nine of our Rugby players participated in the U18 Craven Week and Academy Week at St Stithians from 17 to 22 July.
U18 Craven Week:
Phendulani Buthelezi, Lwandile Menze, Sanele Nohamba, Cham Zondeki and Celimpilo Gumede
U18 Academy:
Tonderai Ndudzo, Luthando Buthelezi, Sean Barnes and Kamvelihle Fatyela
The Week got off a great start with the announcement that Phendulani Buthelezi, our Rugby Captain and Head Prefect, had been appointed as Captain of the KZN U18 Sharks team for Craven Week! We are so proud of Phepsi and delighted that his exceptional leadership skills are being recognized. He also featured in on SuperSport 1, on a rugby programme called FirstXV; he did us proud on the programme, handling it like a professional. Well done, Phepsi!
Both teams had a good week, with the Sharks Craven team playing in the finals for the first time since 1990.

Craven Week:
vs Blue Bulls 53-33
(Phendulani Buthelezi, Sanele Nohamba and Cham Zondeki each scored a try; Sanele converted 5 tries, kicked a penalty over and was appointed Man of the Match)
vs SWD Eagles 65-26
(Phendulani Buthelezi scored two tries and was selected Man of the Match; Celimpilo Gumede scored 1 try and Sanele Nohamba converted 2 tries)
vs Golden Lions 18-45
(Cham Zondeki scored a try and Sanele Nohamba put away two penalties)
Academy Week:
vs SWD Eagles 46-7
(Luthando Buthelezi scored 3 tries and Sean Barnes scored 1)
vs Western Province 36-50
(Tonderai Ndudzo and Kamvelihle Fatyela scored a try each)
vs Free State 29-38
(Luthando Buthelezi scored two tries)
Grant Khomo Week
Two of our U16 Rugby players, Darren Booysen and Jaydian Cedares, played in the Grant Khomo Rugby Week at Grey College, Bloemfontein from 10 to 14 July. Our Head of Rugby, Scott Mathie, was the Coach. They had a very successful tournament, winning all three of the games they played.
