SA Schools Badminton Champs!

Last weekend, defending champions Durban High School were named the winners of the SA Schools Badminton Tournament that was held at the KZN Badminton Hall, in association with the KZN Badminton Association.
Going for their third consecutive win, the Durban High School 1st team went into the tournament feeling the pressure, but they played hard and smart in order to once again claim victory.
The tournament saw representatives from 32 schools from around the country participating in the tournament.
The DHS team, made up of Tonderai Ndudzo, Nischay Jairaj, Jaydon Beru and Rivaldo Soni, won all of their games leading up to the quarter finals 5-0.  They played against Westville D, St Dunstan’s A, Middleburg A, Alberton A.
The met Westville B in the Quarter Finals and beat them and then 3-0.  This win allowed the team to proceed to the semi-finals where they won against St Dunstan’s 3-0. It was then on to the finals where they played against the favourites for the Championships, Hoërskool Jim Fouché from Bloemfontein. The match was extremely fast paced, however, the DHS boys showed determination and pushed through in order to take the victory and the SA School Champs with a win of 3-0.
According to the M-i-C of DHS Badminton, Mr Charles Moodley: “Once again I am proud of our team for their outstanding play and for successfully defending their title once again. Their hard work and dedication to the sport has paid off.”
“This was one of the best contested finals that the BSA has ever had,” said Mrs Emelda Botha (Chairlady of KZN Badminton Association).
Durban High School is no stranger to achieving success in Badminton. Previous accolades include winning the SA Schools Badminton Tournament in 2010, making it this year’s win their fourth win overall.  They also placed 2nd in the All Africa Schools tournament in 2016 which was held in Mauritius.
