The DHS 1st Water Polo took part in the Clifton Tournament this past weekend.
With the lack of game preparation the team battled to find its rhythm throughout the weekend. There were times of real structured water polo, but unfortunately these were too far and in between.
What was really encouraging from the tournament was the intensity with which the junior players within the team played. Special mention must be made of David Whitfield and Connor Mack who both had outstanding tournaments.
The two major contributors to our results was our scoring inability and the fitness levels of key players. In our fixture against Affies we could only manage a 9% success rate out of 24 shots, which is totally unacceptable. The lack of fitness unfortunately did not allow for much structure on attack and saw us found wanting on defense. Over 50% of the goals we conceded were from counter attacks.
The boys have come away from this tournament with an understanding of what is required to participate in an event of this magnitude.
New structures are being put in place to remedy these downfalls and hopefully we will see the fruits of the new program in the near future.
