Introduction of an Elective Programme @ DHS

Durban High School is excited to announce the rolling out of an Elective Programme in March 2018.
The Programme will give Durban High School Learners the opportunity to select various electives.  These electives will allow our learners to develop vital skills that are not necessarily addressed in the normal school curriculum. These include aspects of Critical Thinking; Problem Solving; Creativity; and Entrepreneurial Thinking. Electives have also been chosen to support the normal school curriculum.
Below is a list of the Electives on offer:
Languages (Zulu; Portuguese; French)
Entrepreneurship
Practical Courses (First Aid; Sailing Course, Rocket Building)
Tertiary readiness course through Varsity College
Online Learning Programmes
Information Technology Literacy
Community Engagement
Public Speaking and Toastmasters
Videography & Photography
Academic Support Classes
We will also be offering various Academies that will run in conjunction with the Elective Programme.
Sports Academies – The sports offered are Aquatics; Basketball; Cricket; Football; Hockey; and Rugby.
Performing Arts Academy – This Academy will focus on a full scale production throughout the course of the year.
Music Academy – Professional lessons will be offered for Wind Instruments and Keyboard. Theory and reading of Music will also be covered.
An Elective Open Day will be held on Monday 29 January 2018. All interested parties will be able to find out more about the Electives being offered, as well as how the electives will be incorporated into the school day.
An Open Evening will be held from 17h30 in the DC Thompson Hall.  Parents and Boys are invited to attend
The Electives will commence on Monday 5 March 2018.
