The DHS 1st team squad played in a series of 20 minute warm up-chukkas on Saturday 10 March against some of their local rivals. It was a well organised and enjoyable day for all involved, and the Sharks emphatic win against the Sunwolves rounded off the day in style.
DHS took on College in the first chukka and, although error ridden, were able to create some clear cut opportunities which, unfortunately, they were unable to convert. However, their defence remained resolute and the chukka remained scoreless. In particular, our contesting at line-out time was a positive.
The 2nd chukka saw the “Horseflies” take on the school across the bridge, and, although contesting with the wind against them, were able to show some true grit and determination in defence, thwarting all attacks from Glenwood. Loosehead prop, Marcel Nel, was impressive with his dominance at scrum time. The score ended 3-3.
The final chukka saw DHS pitted against Westville, and DHS ran out comfortable 14-0 winners. Against the wind, DHS produced two moments of magic; one from a quick tap penalty from Flank, Asande Mnguni, who sent Scrumhalf, Jaydian Cedares, scampering away for a lovely try. The other magic moment was from a well worked line-out move that resulted in a try for Wing, Macneil Jenner.
These friendlies will give the team the confidence to go into the season and we are looking forward to the trip up to Hilton next week.
