This past weekend saw us heading into a tough contest against a top Michaelhouse 1st Hockey team. We were prepped for the game and the boys stuck to the game plan in the first half, forcing a tightly contested game. Michaelhouse did not capitalise on a few short corners and chances, while the DHS boys’ basics let them down when a few great attacking opportunities arose. With just a few minutes left in the first half we got caught on the ball, creating a turn over in a bad area which allowed Michaelhouse to run through to the goals scoring a tap in, putting DHS 1-0 down at half time.
The second half started much the same as the 1st half until Michaelhouse scored another soft goal off a DHS error. 2-0 down we decided to try go for it and take Michaelhouse on; unfortunately, a key injury before the game opened us up at the back and we were eventually down 5-0. One last move, with a few positional changes to try force a result, DHS scored a fantastic goal to end the game 5-1 down.
Many positives to take out of the game, but in the end we need more work on our basics and technical ability. The team is starting to put together some good passages of play, we just need to do it for a full 60 minutes.
