Durban High School will be hosting the 2nd annual Drumline Competition on Wednesday 15 August, from 6pm, outside the Chris Seabrooke Music Centre at the School.
This inter-school Drumline Competition is designed to open up a new avenue of participation in schools’ Drumline activities. It aims to encourage new and emerging ensembles to participate in marching percussion through a fast-paced and in-your-face competition. Battle units consists of just 5 or more members who will put together 1:30 – 2:00 minute performance routines.
Traditionally, the Drumline performs at rugby games, creating an energetic atmosphere that spurs on players and spectators alike. This competition is focusing on the technical aspects that go into the preparation for these bands, aiming to reward the boys for their hard work and skill levels.
We have to incentivise and encourage more children to be a part of bands like this in order to grow their passion and interest in the arts.
Musicians Gear Zone and Pearl have come on board as the official sponsors. The competition will feature high school marching percussion sections from throughout KwaZulu-Natal and promises to be an event that will only grow from strength to strength.
