1st Team Match Report:
The DHS 1st team Sevens travelled inland to Pietermaritzburg to take part at the Woodburn Sevens Tournament that was proudly hosted by Nashua and Maritzburg College.
Our boys prepared well during the week and trained extremely hard to bounce back from the Vryheid tournament the previous weekend. Our first game was against Clifton and the boys really geared up and played particularly well, beating Clifton 31-7. Our last pool game was against a very physical and good Northwood team and the boys had to dig deep to win 26-21 at the end of the game, after trailing with a couple of minutes to end top of the log in our pool.
Next up was the quarter final against Kearsney College and, seeing that it is knock out stages, we knew we had to win to go through to the semi-finals. Losing one of our key players in the Northwood match and picking up a couple of injuries during that game, the boys knew it was going to be a team battle going forward. Kearsney dominated the first half, scoring three quick tries and were leading half time 5-17. The boys fought back brilliantly to end up losing 21-24 when time was up.
The courage, guts and positive attitude the boys showed during that game must be commended. I would like to thank Maritzburg College and Nashua for hosting a brilliant tournament.
