The Chess Durban & Districts Final was held on Saturday 4 August 2018 at St Henry’s. The DHS team comprised of: Naseem Essa, Sashen Pather, Cayden Pather, Thirushan Pather, Sridhar Chandraduth, Shivaan Devpruth, Yadhav Gokool, Viseshan Govender, Sharik Ramjee and Njabulo
Four schools participated viz: DHS, Northwood, St Henry’s and Glenwood. In the first round, against St Henry’s, our boys scored 7½ to their 2 ½.
Our boys were confident contenders against Glenwood and resulted in an 8 to 2 win. By now the tension had heightened tremendously as we had the final match against Northwood – our greatest rivals.
After a nail biting finish, and with one more game to go DHS, were victorious. The first team remain unbeaten this season, winning all their inter school matches for the second year in a row. Winning the D&D trophy is certainly the cherry on the top!
