DHS once again hosted the DHS U16 Water Polo Tournament, held from 4 to 7 October, with 20 schools from around the country participating.
This tournament, which was first held in 2012, has grown to a “must attend” on the calendar of the top Water Polo playing schools in SA. It was an honour and a privilege for DHS to host these schools.
Head of Aquatics, Mr Steve La Marque, and his team, which included the Moms’ Committee, as usual did an excellent job in laying the groundwork for the Tournament. Blackmore’s had a full house with the visiting boys who thoroughly enjoyed their stay, especially the Peppers & Pans catering.
The officials’ table and the scoreboard were well-manned by the DHS Water Polo boys and Mr La Marque kept the spectators and players informed, and entertained, over the public address system.
Generally, the Polo itself was of a high standard. The final this year was once again between Clifton College and St John’s College, with Clifton taking the trophy with a 6-3 win.
The DHS U16 team were placed 8th overall, which is a wonderful improvement on previous years. Well done to the team, which consisted of mainly U15 players, and to coach, Dylan Cronje.
Special mention must be made of our Goalkeeper, Nqobile Phiri (U15), who was selected as a member of the Tournament Team. Well done, Nqobile, you are a talented goalkeeper and we look forward to watching your progress.
Another successful and enjoyable tournament. Thank you to the teams that participated … we look forward to hosting you again next year.
