Welcome, Mrs Jeanette Jacobs!

We welcome Mrs Jeanette Jacobs into the Mathematics Department at Durban High School.
Mrs Jacobs obtained her teaching degree through UNISA, majoring in Mathematics and Accounting and passing with distinction. Mrs Jacob has been teaching Mathematics since 2009, however, prior to teaching she studied law and worked with Deceased Estates.
In her own words:
“I am happily married to Dawie Jacobs, since 2002.  We have four wonderful children: two boys and two girls. The two girls have already entered the working world (the second one is working as from this year). The oldest boy is now in his second year at the University of North West, Potchefstroom Campus. He is studying Engineering. The “little one”, our “laat-lammetjie”, is now 13 years old and in Grade 8 (he keeps us on our toes!)

I did not originally study Education. I studied law (because I got a bursary and thought I am going to create new laws to protect children ….). What a rude awakening! The law is all but fair… I worked back my bursary and eventually, after a long road, I started teaching. (I honestly did not understand how anybody can pay me to do maths the whole day – what a bargain!) Well, life combined my two passions: Maths and children, for which I am very grateful.
My aim is to not only teach Maths in my class, but also life lessons (in Grade 11, I think we are at life lesson # 8/9 already).
I thoroughly enjoy what I do, and hope that my passion will ignite a little flame in each learner that shares a few steps of their life’s journey with me. I hope to make a difference in the lives of my learners and colleagues (‘cause, isn’t that what we are here for, after all?)”
We like you already Mrs Jacobs! Welcome to Durban High School. We look forward to learning life lessons with you and hope your stay with us is a long and happy one!
