Also on Friday, our boys and staff will all receive a piece of birthday cake to celebrate the School’s 153rd Birthday! Yay!

Old Boys Assembly
First up is the traditional Founders Day Old Boys Assembly at 8am in the DC Thompson Hall. Mr Sizwe Nxedlana, Class of 1999 and Chairman of The DHS Foundation, is to be the Guest Speaker.

Old Boys Breakfast – NOT TO BE MISSED!
This year, The DHS Foundation is introducing a Breakfast for Old Boys on Founders Day, Saturday 1 June 2019. Starting at 8.30am in the DC Thompson Hall, a Panel discussion is to be held with the “Famous Five” participating – celebrity DHS Old Boys Barry Richards, Lee Irvine, Brendon ‘BJ’ Botha, Adrian Hansen and Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan.
MC for this event is the hilarious Aaron McIlroy.
Barry Richards and Lee Irvine are both renowned Cricketers. A year apart in age, they were school mates and played cricket together at DHS. Both gentlemen played for South Africa, however, the breaking of official sporting links due to apartheid policy curtailed the number of tests matches they were able to play.
Lee played for South Africa in 1969-1970. He captained the Transvaal team and also played for Essex in the UK.
A right-handed “talent of enormous stature”, Barry Richards is considered one of the finest cricket talents of the 20th Century and was selected in Donald Bradman’s greatest Cricket XI for the 20th Century.
BJ Botha is a rugby player who has played Prop 25 times for the Springboks. He was a member of the squad that won the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Adrian Hansen is a former No. 1 South African Squash player, representing his country at the Commonwealth Games in 2006.
Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan is a professional martial arts fighter; he was a two-time EFC Africa Champion and EFC Worldwide Champion. He is due to challenge for the EFC middleweight title in the near future.
The John Lennon memorabilia of a copy of the original lyrics of his song “Imagine” will be auctioned at the breakfast. Pre-bids from interested parties can be sent to Bronwyn Bath on admin@dhsfoundation.co.za on or before Friday 31 May 2019.
Founders Day
Finally, Founders Day itself will be held on Saturday 1 June, with Rugby fixtures being played against Glenwood High School. Games begin at 08h00 with the 1st XV kicking off at 13h20. The traditional Sundowners Cocktail function, open to all adults, will be held in the DC Thompson Hall after the 1st XV game.
Founders Day is a compulsory attendance for all our Boys until after the 1st XV game. We would also like to ask our boys to please bring a plate of eats or two for tea.
We look forward to another great week of celebrating this fine School!
