Welcome, Mr Simanga Ngcongo

Simanga Ngcongo (3)
We are delighted to welcome to Durban High School on a full time basis our new Deputy Head Master, Mr Simanga Ngcongo!
Mr Ngcongo was loaned to us on a part-time basis last year by NewBridge College. His input and assistance was so invaluable, we have appropriated him full time. Mr Ngcongo’s professional qualifications and work experience are impressive. He is a dedicated and motivated individual with an extensive career path spanning many areas in the education sector.
He has studied at the Indumiso College of Education, the University of Johannesburg (twice), the University of Natal, UKZN, Corporate College International and Varsity College. He is currently studying for his Masters of Commerce in Leadership Studies at UKZN.
Mr Ngcongo is a qualified teacher, with a FDE in Economic Management Sciences with majors in Accounting, Economics and Business Management. He also has a BEd (Honours) in Training and Development, both from the University of Johannesburg.
Not satisfied with these degrees, Mr Ngcongo continued to study and has a postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from UKZN, an Assessor Qualification from Corporate College International, a Business Management & Administration Certificate from Varsity College and a Computer Literacy Certificate from University of Natal. Most recently, he has also completed the Moderator’s Course in the ETDP SETA through Eagle Wings Training.
Whilst studying, Mr Ngcongo has worked as an educator teaching his majors, tutored at UNISA and been a Case Manager and Programme Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Africa. He worked his way up through the ranks at Rosebank College, from Academic Development Coordinator to Head of Department to Vice Principal – Academics. He then joined NewBridge College as their Professional Development Programme Manager before joining Durban High School on a permanent basis.
With a strong focus on teaching and learning, his portfolio at DHS will include overseeing the quality of delivery in the classroom. This entails preparing for the whole school evaluation which will be conducted by the Department of Education. In addition to the quality assurance role, he will also champion the staff development of the academic staff so as to promote a culture of life-long learning and best teaching practice amongst our educators. As a strong supporter of an holistic approach to education his objective is to shape the lives of our boys and set them on the path to being future leaders. As a result of this vision, Mr Ngcongo is looking forward to being involved in all aspects of life at DHS.
Born and bred in KZN, apart from a few years in Pretoria, he lives in Durban with his family. In his spare time Mr Ngcongo enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, running, swimming and going to the gym. His personal goals for 2020 are to complete his master’s degree and to travel abroad.
Welcome to DHS, Mr Ngcongo! We already know your value and look forward to a long and happy association with you.
