“The launch of the KZN Schools Jazz & Rock Music Festival is the perfect way for audiences to celebrate Human Rights weekend,” according to Durban’s most popular Jazz singer and song-writer, Natalie Rungan. Featuring 100% local talent with a total of 7 concerts, across 3 venues, the shows promise to provide a full weekend of musical excellence for all.
The concerts kick off this Friday, 20 March at 6pm with the phenomenal KZN Youth Orchestra. As the opening event, this concert is FREE to the public. Come along!
The concert will also feature the popular and entertaining DHS Jazz Band.

Time:    6pm to 7pm
The Chris Seabrooke Music Centre Auditorium hosts the all-stars jazz band, “The Jazz Quartet.” The quartet features jazz greats: Natalie Rungan (vocals), Neil Gonsalves (piano), Bruce Baker (drums) and Shaun Johannes (bass).
Time:     7.30pm to 9pm.
Black Lapels close off the night with their world-class contemporary three-piece rock sound. The Black Lapels line-up includes the energetic Rob Warren (vocals and guitar), Garth Warren (bass) and Gareth Gale. Gale is said to be one of the foremost drummers in South Africa. He has performed internationally with the likes of Farryl Purkiss, Nibs Van Der Spy and Guy Battery.

The Festival closes with a “big bang” crescendo on the evening of Sunday 22 March. Award winning contemporary Jazz artist Ernie Smith, the KZN School’s Jazz and Rock bands and “Afrosoul promise to make this an exhilarating weekend of world class music making for audiences young and old.
