Rugby & Hockey vs Hilton College

1st XV Rugby Report:

On Saturday 15 May 2021, Durban High School made their way to scenic Hilton College for a fierce face off on the rugby field.

It was always expected to be a tough outing and the feel before the kick off was a positive one. The day however did not turn out the way we would have wanted, and yet again the result 5-44 speaks volumes in terms of the experience our young Horseflies have, compared to those of Hilton College.

The fight was always on and the boys continued battling it out on the hallowed Gilfillan, and eventually 1stXV debutant Zack Smith, managed to score an unconverted try. This was a true testament to the undying spirit that exists within the squad.

The Hilton team was a very large, conditioned and an incredibly physical team that played at a frenetic pace. The collisions were solid and this eventually took its toll on the DHS boys, which saw us incur a few injuries.  The effect of Covid -19 has been real and the lack of competitive game time is rearing its ugly head, but we will continue to fight to ensure the Blue Typhoon once again, become renowned.

1st XI Hockey Report:

This weekend saw another tough task ahead for our 1st Hockey team with a fixture against a very good Hilton College 1st team.

The game started well with DHS missing a tap in on the far post, but we were competing exceptionally well. However, we then proved to be our own worst enemy. Hilton College were able to punish us numerous times from soft turn overs.

Our reaction to turn overs and defensive energy just wasn’t good enough. Hilton were relentless on turn over and connected well to punish us. Keelan Henry our goal keeper had an incredible performance keeping the score down.

This was a great performance by the Hilton 1st team who ran out 0-5 winners. Another under par performance by our young 1st team showing their immaturity again.
