The much-anticipated initiative to build a hockey astro turf at Durban High School has begun. It is a well-documented fact that Durban High School is one of the few traditional boys government funded schools across South Africa that does not have its own hockey turf. We are extremely excited at the prospect of being able to provide our boys with the same access to opportunities that other schools can. Plans are well under way and the final piece of the puzzle was the seal of approval from the DOE which we received last week on Friday 28 May.
With the build imminent the school is looking to add to the funding already raised by the DHS Foundation to be able to facilitate everything that is needed to complete this project.
With this in mind, Term 2 sees the start of a new annual Fundraiser for DHS! The annual fundraiser will be in the form of a whole school raffle, including boys, staff, parents, Old Boys, friends and families of the school. We encourage everyone to get involved as fundraising is a team sport! No matter how small the contribution is, it is the contribution itself that counts. We have been quietly behind the scenes contacting sponsors for prizes for our raffle and the support has been outstanding, we are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors who have contributed to the success of our first raffle. Thank you to each and every sponsor for these incredible donations, we hope this will motivate families to support and buy raffle tickets as there are some wonderful prizes to be won. Each boy will be give one raffle sheet and encouraged to sell as many tickets as possible for us to raise funds for the new Astro Turf. The tickets will be R50 each and for every ten tickets sold they will receive an 11th free ticket entry into the draw.
Weekly spot prize draws will be held for the boys to motivate them in selling the tickets and the class that sells the most tickets will get a free lunch (burger, chips and a cool drink) kindly supplied by Henk at The Tuck Shop.
