“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
From: For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon
Durban High School hosted the annual calendar event where our fallen heroes are honoured – the Armistice Service. At this remembrance service we remember the 277 DHS Old Boys who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service for their country while fighting in various wars for the freedom and democracy we experience today.
As always the ceremony was extremely moving and emotional. Mr S La Marque presided as Master of Ceremonies, Head Master Mr Pinheiro welcomed the guests, Rev Michael Fourie presented the lesson and Homily and Mr David Bennett read out the names of the fallen from the Roll of Honour.
Ms Natalie Rungan sang a beautiful rendition of an all-time favourite, ‘What a Wonderful World’ and The Last Post and Reveille played on the trumpet by Yaron Smith (Grade 12) created a spine-tingling effect on all of those who were in attendance.
“We will remember them.”
