On Thursday 10 February, Durban High School hosted the Junior Prize-Giving Awards Ceremony to celebrate the 2021 academic achievements of our young men in Grades 8 to 11. The event was attended by parents, invited guests, staff and boys, and Guest Speaker, Mr Preven Reddy.
The Junior Prize-Giving is a learner centred ceremony, with most of the formalities being conducted by the boys themselves. The Deputy Head Prefects welcomed the guests (Michael Russell) and presented a reading (Bagcine Gqweta), while the Head Prefect, Owen Morgenrood, introduced and then thanked the Guest Speaker. The audience was entertained by the Boys of DHS Music Department.
Guest Speaker Mr Prev Reddy, Class of 2013, addressed the audience. Mr Reddy is a South African actor, Stand-up comic, content Creator and Social Media star.
He stressed to the boys the importance of passion and belief. He said he had always wanted to perform and it was his passion that drove him continuously to push to perform. He said that at DHS, which has so much to offer, it was the teachers’ belief in him, and their wonderful support, which validated his dreams and made them achievable. His message to the boys was to let their passion drive, motivate and push them. His message to the parents was to support their sons’ dreams.
Mr Reddy was then invited to present the awards to the deserving learners that had achieved at the end of 2021. The prize winners were read out Mr I Lewis, Departmental Head.
At the end of the ceremony, Mr Lewis thanked the staff of Durban High School for their efforts in assisting the boys to excel.
Durban High School congratulates all the prize winners and thanks Mr Prev Reddy for taking time out of his busy schedule to share his story with the boys and guests.
