“Victory is in having done your best. If you have done your best, you have won!”
– Billy Bowerman
There is definitely a different vibe at School when the Winter sports codes kick in. It is as if a sleeping giant begins to stir. There has been much activity in preparation on Van Heerden and Nourse Fields for the rugby, as well as the Riverside Astro for the hockey.
There has also been excitement generated via the War Cry Leaders and Prefects with their contributions to the spirit in preparation for events to follow.
Mr Peter Engledow along with his assistant coach, Mr Ronnie Uys, has put in hours of work with the boys in the 1st XV Rugby team. They have a really challenging season ahead and it has been great to witness how they have come together over the last few weeks. Led by Captain of Rugby, Owen Morgenrood, much is expected of these boys over the next few months. In true DHS fashion, we know that they will be up to the task and will give of their best every time that they take to the field. DHS will field 21 rugby teams on a weekly basis.
Mr Michael Baker has been working equally hard to prepare the 1st XI Hockey team. Led by Captain Bacine Gqweta, they certainly have an exciting season ahead of them. There is a lot of talent across all age groups and School can expect some great results against our rival schools. DHS will field 11 hockey teams on a weekly basis.
The majority of coaches, both rugby and hockey, are DHS staff members and we are grateful to them all for their dedication to the boys of DHS.
We wish the boys and staff from both codes a really enjoyable and successful winter season.
