DHS have always been leaders when it comes to Community Service, and we are so incredibly proud to see that the continuous efforts of our boys just do not stop! With the recent disaster of flooding in our province, Blackmore House and Grade 9R took it upon themselves to do their bit for our community and initiated Community Service Projects of their own.
Grade 9R students, Hlumelo Maqubela and Cebo Bizana instigated a beach clean-up themselves in which the entire class of 9R willingly joined. The boys managed to fill their 15 bags with litter with ease – well done to you all! Special mention to both Cebo and Hlumelo for the incredible leadership they have shown at this early age to coordinate an activity such as this.
Blackmore House went a step further and not only participated in their own beach clean-up, but also distributed food parcels to the homeless and destitute. Your continuous service to the community and acts of kindness go further than you think, Gentlemen. A HUGE thank you to Mr Moodley, who played a huge role in assisting the boys to make this day happen.
The following message is an email received by Mr E Govender, the Senior Housemaster at Blackmore House:
“On behalf of Pastors Glenn and Alison Schroder we would like to write a letter of thanks to Durban High School and especially the boys of Blackmore house for all their help with #OperationCRCcaresKZNrelief
Operation CRC Cares KZN Relief is targeted at helping those who have been affected by the recent flooding that hit KZN which left thousands of people Devastated, homeless and without food.
This week, we had the great privilege of having the boys from Blackmore House assist in packing the food hampers before distribution. The boys were well presented, had a great attitude, well-mannered and worked like Trojans to get the job done! Each of them can be proud that they played a part in bringing hope to the many receiving the food hampers.
We are grateful to have a relationship with Blackmore House and look forward to furthering the relationship.
A big thank you must go to Mr Pinheiro, Mr Govender and all the other DHS Staff for allowing the boys to be a part of something greater than themselves.
To the boys of Blackmore House, we are beyond proud of you all, thank you for your sacrifice and willingness to be a part of the solution in rebuilding KZN! “A life devoid of purpose will always lead to destruction”. God has great plans for each and every one of your lives!
We can’t wait to see you boys at Homecell this week and at our Celebration service on Sunday!
Kind regards
Blair Haslam (intern zone Pastor)”
You have all done School very proud, and we have no doubt that a number of you will be the leaders that this country needs once you have matriculated. We are so incredibly proud of the selfless act shown by our boys in helping those who are in need. You truly are an inspiration to the DHS Family and have also provided so much hope to those that are less fortunate than you.
A number of other Community Service projects have been undertaken by all grades at Durban High School, organised by Head of Community Service, Ms Giselle Joshua. These will be reported on in due course.
