INDOOR HOCKEY

U14A

For the first time in our School’s history, our U14A Indoor Hockey Team won the KZN U14A Indoor Hockey League and were crowned Champions of the KZN Coastal Indoor Hockey Schools. The team produced a phenomenal set of results and the following statistics speak huge volume of the Hockey this Champion team produced:

Played                   9
Won                      9
Goals for              51
Goals against     12

The U14A team beat Clifton in the Semi Final 4-2 which set up a Final against a very strong Kearsney team. Our boys were simply outstanding in the Final, beating Kearsney 4-0.

U14B

DHS U14B Indoor Hockey team also made history by winning the KZN U14B League.

This is the first time that DHS have entered a B team into the league due to the depth that we now have in our Hockey Program. Winning this league promotes our B team into the A league next season.

The fantastic statistics for the season were as follows:

Played                   8
Won                      8
Goals for              77
Goals against     4

These incredible performances resulted in both our U14A and U14B going unbeaten – the only school to achieve this.

Our Hockey is in a very special place and we’d like to take this opportunity once again to thank and congratulate all the players, coaches, management and the leadership of DHS.

Graham ‘Basher’ Downes U12 Sevens Rugby Festival

School hosted our annual Graham ‘Basher’ Downes Rugby Sevens Festival where Primary Schools from around the country send their U12 Rugby players to participate against each other.

As always, the festival was a hit and a most enjoyable evening was had by all with sublime Sevens on display from the first game right through up until the Final.

We would like to congratulate Penzance for winning the Cup Final for the first time ever at our tournament – a brilliant achievement! We would also like to congratulate Glenwood Prep (1) on their win in the Bowl Final.

Thank you to all involved in yet another very successful Graham ‘Basher’ Festival and we look forward to seeing you next year.

SOCCER

The DHS U14A Soccer Team recently took part in the KZN Cup, which hosts the best teams in our province. In a straight knock-out format, our boys truly performed admirably whilst playing some beautiful soccer which was enough to get us into the Final.

Against a clinical Westville Boys’ team, the Final ended in a 1-1 draw which resulted in a penalty shootout. It was Westville that held their nerve and ended up as 4-3 victors after the shootout and therefore walked away with the Cup.

Congratulations to both Westville and our U14A boys. A great start to the soccer calendar with tremendous promise – good luck for the rest of the season.

Results of our KZN Cup Tournament:

vs Kloof                                     8-0 victory
vs Hilton                                   3-1 victory
vs Queensborough               2-0 victory
vs Westville                                1-1 draw
(lost 4-3 on penalties)

SOFTBALL

Congratulations to the DHS 1st Team Softball who have beaten Northwood. After being 8-0 down, School came back in true Horsefly fashion to win 12-11!

Well done to both players and coaches on a superb victory!
