CHESS:

The Chess 1st Team began the Chess season with a bang at the end of April, beating Glenwood 6½ to their 3½ points.

The next game, against Northwood, did not go in School’s favour, however, the Team then enjoyed a great victory against Durban Girls’ High School in their next match. The Cultural ties our two schools share is something we treasure, and we thank them for hosting our boys.

Our boys produced an even better performance at Eden College, where they beat the hosts 9-1. Well done to all the boys who keep the DHS flag flying.

The 1st Team continued their fine form with a great victory against George Campbell. After a tough start to the match, the boys pulled through and produced an outstanding victory.

Umhlali Individual Chess Tournament:

Ten of our boys entered the Umhlali individual Chess tournament on Saturday 20 May 2023.

Three of our boys: David Snyman, Rikhil Reuben and Kiaran Sewnarain dominated the high school section.

Our boys played excellent games of Chess and their hard work and level headedness ensured a great win for School. All the boys received a certificate of participation.

Final Results:

Top Positions:
Tied 1st: David Snyman (5 points) – received Silver medal
2nd: Rikhil Reuben (5 points) – Bronze medal
3rd: Kiaran Sewnarain (4½ points) – Bronze medal
